William T. Colville was an accomplished watercolor artist whose life began and ended in the beautiful California community of Montecito, near Santa Barbara.

As a young man delivering groceries for his fathers business, he admired the stately homes and lush gardens he visited. As he started to paint, landscapes, homes and gardens would become his main focus for the rest of his life.

He became a life long student, and later teacher, of paintng, constantly improving his craft and enjoying the community of other artists. Bill had many commisions for local residents and celebrities. He also chose his own subjects around California or his many trips to Europe.

Whatever the scene, Bill developed an eye for essence of the subject. "I enjoy finding the special viewpoint that envisions the warmth, quality and sprit that my clients see in their hearts when they ask me to paint their homes", Bill said. "Sometimes it is a whole vista and other times it can be displayed by painting an archway or garden path and showing only a special portion of the house." His watercolors are filled with his generous use of color. He was especially accomplished at capturing both the quality of light and the intricate details of roofs, windows, gates and flowers in his paintings. A recipient of numerous awards.

Bill Colville was honored by the Artists Society International. His work is exhibited in selected galleries and in the homes of those lucky enough to own one of his paintings.
